Navy v. Notre Dame: a rivalry bound through history

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Notre Dame matchup is kicked off Saturday morning.

The game brought thousands of fans to the first coast to watch a rivalry that has been closely entwined from the very beginning.

But according to many fans like Marine Veteran Ray Raynolds, this rivalry is much different from other collegiate rivalries like Georiga/Florida.

“ I see all this wonderful young people representing our country and going over to fight in wars and protect our freedom.”

Raynolds said with Veterans Day just around the corner there’s a sense of unity in the air at Everbank Field.

“It’s just great to be an American”

Navy Veteran Adam Freihofer arrived to the stadium Saturday with dozens of tailgaters representing the Navy, according to Freihofer because of both team’s deep rooted history it’s a different game altogether.

“It’s a really tight knit community between the two of us.”

An estimated 75 thousand Navy-Notre Dame fans came out to the game at EverBank Field.
