JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The airbag recall has been expanded and now affects millions of vehicles and several brands. BMW is one of those brands; 627-thousand beamers.
"It is roughly 2000-to-2006 BMW 3 series," said Brian Noell.
Noell is service manager for Tom Bush BMW. He said they are responding to every concern.
"We've ordered the parts for customers that have contacted us," he said, "and we will contact the customers as they come in, they're available but on a limited basis."
So what do you do if your vehicle is affected, or you are not sure. Noell said do nothing, you will be notified by the manufacturer.
"BMW is notifying owners via mail," he said.
What if you are not the original owner? He said all you have to do is contact your nearest dealer and give them the Vehicle Identification number (VIN).
"We can look it up," said Noell, "and we can tell them if the recall applies to their car."
The repair is simple. Noell said they will replace the current passenger side airbag and it will take less than an hour. So until that happens, should you be concerned?
"I would say odds are pretty slim of actually having a problem," he said, "but it still needs to be addressed as soon as possible."
Noell said BMW is meeting its dealer's demand, but now that the recall has been expanded it may impact the number of replacement airbags available for every manufacturer.
"We're only allowed to order ten airbags a day," he said, "that's all per day."
