JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Navy escort vessel carrying five sailors hit the jetties while returning to Mayport Thursday evening, authorities said.
The Coast Guard launched a rescue operation for the sailors trapped aboard the 34-foot boat based at Naval Station Mayport following the collision about 7:30 p.m., spokesperson Steve Lehman told First Coast News.
Five sailors aboard the vessel stranded on the southern jetties were brought ashore about 10 p.m. The boat remains lodged in the jetties.
No injuries were reported, Mayport spokesperson Bill Austin said.
