Stories of Service: TMS Academy

TMS Academy in St. Johns County offers IT certification training for members of the military.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — There are seemingly countless jobs in the military, but what about life after wearing the uniform? In this week's Stories of Service, First Coast News introduces you to a local nonprofit that hopes to educate servicemembers for their career after the military.

Laptops and keyboards, quite a different setup than many servicemembers are used to while on active duty, but that's what Brandon Floyd and TMS Academy provide.

"Our job and our mission is to help as many servicemembers as we can with career paths," said Floyd, a military education officer with TMS Academy.

Located in St. Augustine's World Golf Village, TMS Academy is a nonprofit connected through Army Education for IT certification.

"We not only help servicemembers pursue the proper certifications necessary, we also help them with professional development," Floyd told First Coast News. "We then look for job opportunities as well."

TMS Academy's program also offers virtual and remote learning, all with the premise of working around the schedules of active-duty members of the military to be accommodating of their time and future goals.

"It feels good when a servicemember goes through the program and you've talked with them a year later and they've established themselves a career," said Floyd.

More information about TMS Academy is available on their website, which can be found here.
