Final wave of Fernandina Beach church group stuck in Israel arrive back in U.S. safely

All 54 members of First Baptist Fernandina Beach who were stuck in Israel after the war broke out have made it back to the United States.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Home sweet home! All 54 members of the Church group stuck in Israel after the war broke out have made it back stateside.

18 members of the First Baptist Fernandina Beach tour group arrived early Sunday morning after flying all day Saturday.

The remaining members landed in New York and Charlotte Sunday evening to pick up their connecting flights. They're scheduled to land around midnight Monday morning.

The group was touring Galilee when they learned about the surprise Hamas attack on Israel.

Their initial flights back home from Israel were cancelled, but they were able to get home after crossing the border into Jordan.

Congressman Aaron Bean is a member of the church, and he teamed up with several lawmakers to create several options for getting them home.

Pastor Zach Terry told First Coast News last week he was hoping to be back in the pulpit to give a sermon Sunday.

Although he didn’t quite make it in time for that, he should have plenty of time to rest up before church next weekend.
