Artist Moses Garzon credits his work and talents to God.
He has painted murals at all of the Cantina Louie Mexican Street Food locations. He's finishing work on the chain's fourth - set to open in early May - on Touchton Road in Jacksonville.
Murals at First Coast Mexican restaurant chain pay tribute to "Day of the Dead"
As he completed his work Saturday, Garzon paused to talk to some passersby who were drawn to the massive, colorful murals which are almost as visible outside as they are within.
"It's Mexican Day of the Dead," he said of the theme. "You have to have fun with it."
Garzon declined to be photographed. He says he's camera shy. One of the gentlemen who stopped at the restaurant asked Garzon if he's ever had formal training.
"Of course I have, but I give credit to God," he said in his thick accent.
The artist showed his surprise guest cell phone photos of painted portraits that could easily be mistaken for portraits taken with a camera. One of the men asked, "how are you able to do that?"
Garzon replied, "You have to have sensitivity to beauty and you have to capture it here," he said looking at his hands and wiggling his fingers.
