JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Family and friends came together to honor the United States Postal Service employee who was killed in a crash on Feb. 13.
Marquite Scurry was driving a mail truck when she was killed in a crash on 103rd Street. A memorial service was held Friday at the TruWay Church of the Risen. Her friends and family showed up in blue, her favorite color, to pay their respects and say goodbye.
Several USPS employees drove by the church in their mail trucks and honked to show their support. They also attended the service. LaTara Chieves, Scurry's cousin, said it meant a lot to see her cousin's coworkers there. She said Scurry was loved by everyone she met and she will be remembered for her smile.
“The joy, the party she always brought. If you need a cake? Call Marquite. If you want a party started? Call Marquite. We’re going to miss her," Chieves said.
Scurry leaves behind five children.
The U.S. Postal Service sent First Coast News the following statement on the crash:
"The Postal Service is deeply saddened by the loss of our postal family member. Our condolences and thoughts go out to her family, friends, and co-workers. Local authorities continue to investigate the incident.”
