ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A woman is in critical condition after a near drowning at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club Sunday, according to the St. Johns County Fire Rescue.
Officials said the incident happened in the ocean, not at the property's pool.
The woman was rescued by a lifeguard, who began life-saving measures. Emergency responders then arrived on the scene and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The Jacksonville Beach Ocean Rescue Division warned the public Saturday that beach and ocean conditions will be hazardous throughout the weekend and urged beachgoers to stay out of the water.
The National Weather Service in Jacksonville issued a high rip current risk through the weekend for Duval County, noting that the distant effects from storms Milton and Leslie increased ocean hazards.
"Even those experienced in the water should be aware of the increased danger and respect the power of the ocean during this period of hazardous conditions," Ocean Rescue said in a release Saturday.
