CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — More than 25,000 were without power throughout Clay Electric's service area Tuesday morning for over an hour, but half of those affected have had their service restored as of 12:30 p.m.
Clay Electric blamed the outages on wind gusts disrupting service. Twelve thousand customers are still without power.
According to spokesperson Wayne Mattox with Clay Electric, Florida Light and Power had a line go down due to wind and that took out three Clay Electric substations in the Orange Park area.
Florida Light and Power are reportedly working to restore that downed line.
The Orange Park area and surrounding Lakeside, Fleming Island and Green Cove Springs are the most affected.
Another power outage in Maxville that affected 2,100 customers was caused by a tree that fell on power lines, according to Clay Electric.
Just over the border between Clay and Duval counties, around Interstate 295, nearly 5,000 JEA customers were without power for nearly an hour as well.
While a couple hundred are without service in Bradford and Alachua counties, an estimated 25,411 were without power in Clay County along the St. Johns River. The outage affected over a third of Clay Electric's customers.
