JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — If you've been paying attention to the forecast for this Sunday all week, then you know your First Coast News Most Accurate Weather Team has been watching things very closely as well.
At the beginning of this week, there was quite a bit of uncertainty with the timing of this weekend's rain. Would it clear out in time for the Jaguars' primetime matchup against the Ravens? Or would it be a soaker?
The good news is the heavy rain will be far from out of DUUUVAL by the time the Big Cats kick off at 8:20 p.m. at the Bank. Jacksonville's soaker arrives late Saturday overnight into early Sunday morning. The rain will taper off by lunchtime on Sunday and we should be able to give the all-clear of the showers after 3 p.m. It'll still be damp around town into the evening, and very gusty as cooler air rushes in.
We'll need to keep our fingers crossed during any field goals from the boys in teal because the wind will be sustained out of the west around 20+ mph with strong gusts around 30+ mph. And even before kickoff, tailgaters will want to make sure supplies around the stadium are tied down well. The wind will be even gustier by mid-late afternoon once we see the breeze make a quick shift from east to west. That's Mother Nature's cue, though, that drier air is headed into the River City.
Temperature-wise, it'll be cooling through the upper 50s from the first quarter to the time the clock runs out. A windbreaker or even a couple of layers might be nice to have for fans in the stadium.
