Why is '3 Dead Inside' painted on a house in Vilano Beach?

It involves alligators and axes.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A rickety house in Vilano Beach caused quite a stir Monday.  The phrase “3 dead inside” was written on its exterior, highway-facing wall.

It was a set for a movie.

"It was the creepiest beach house I had ever seen," Padraig Reynolds told First Coast News Tuesday.

He is a film writer and director.

"We’re shooting a movie called Florida Man. It’s a horror anthology movie. The bigger movie is called Body Farm."

He didn’t reveal much about the movie’s plot, saying "I don't want to give it away."

But it includes a special-effects gator, which was on set. There was also a real alligator on the set Tuesday morning.

"A ten-footer, yeah," Producer Josh Russell added.

Axes are also involved.

And, "there is a lot of blood in this movie," Craig McIntyre said. He did special make-up and effects for the movie.

"I’ve actually written a whole script about this local area because you have so much great infrastructure here. So much creepy stuff for horror movies," Reynolds said.

Reynolds and some of his colleagues are from Los Angeles. They wrapped up this part of the movie Tuesday.  Reynolds said it could be in theaters and on VOD next year.

As for the message of "3 Dead Inside" painted on the outside of the house, some people, even police, stopped to inquire.

"I guess we did cause quite a stir. He and his colleagues laughed. "We’re just shooting a little alligator movie."
