JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — At a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office gave a briefing about an officer arrest. The briefing was held at the Police Memorial Building.
JSO Officer Dennis Hampton, who has been an officer for 5 years, was arrested for falsifying secondary employment. Hampton was signing up and receiving payment for second side jobs, but not actually showing up and working.
He is facing a felony charge for official misconduct.
The investigation into the misconduct began in January. JSO officials said Hampton was investigated over the course of several weeks. He was caught not showing up for secondary jobs as often as multiple times a week.
Hampton chose not to resign, however, JSO Undersheriff Pat Ivey said the sheriff's office will move to terminate him due to the third degree felony charge.
He is the first officer arrested in 2022. Ten officers were arrested in 2021.
