WARE COUNTY, Ga. — After a full lockdown was initiated at Ware County High School Monday afternoon, school officials say there is "no evidence" a shooting took place and no injuries have been reported.

The school's superintendent said law enforcement quickly responded to the school following reports of a shot fired on campus.

"After a thorough search, we can confirm that our campus has been cleared, and there is no evidence that a shooting occurred," Superintendent Bert Smith said in a Facebook update just before 3:30 p.m.

He added: "We understand that rumors are circulating, but, again, I want to clarify that there were no injuries or fatalities related to this incident."

School officials sent a message to parents Monday letting them know officers were in the process of clearing out the campus.

The school was still in the process of releasing students as of 3 p.m. Monday. School officials said parents would receive pick-up times and locations shortly for their child and are urging them not to come to the campus at this time, as it was blocked off.

In response to Monday's incident, officials said school counselors and mental health support will be available to students and staff throughout the week.

"We also ask that you please take this opportunity to talk with your child about school safety and remind them to report any rumors or information about an unsafe situation to a trusted adult," Smith wrote.

Additional law enforcement will be on the school's campus for the rest of the week as an added safety precaution, officials said.
