'It was right on us': Union County family's property wrecked by reported tornado

The Pressley family had a piece of wood lodged in their roof and their shed disappeared when a reported tornado passed through their property.

UNION COUNTY, Fla. — A Union County family had an experience they weren’t expecting during the early part of Hurricane Debby.

A reported tornado passed right through their property Sunday night, leaving a trail of damage behind it.

“It felt like two seconds after we got the second one [tornado alert], we had absolutely no time to react," said Layne Pressley, "It was right on us. All we had time to do was look at each other and run to our safe spot.”

When Pressley looked out after the impact, she found a yard full of debris.

“We have trees down," said Pressley. "We have fences down. We had a huge beam impale our roof. We have roof damage. Every time we look outside. We have more damage that we didn’t see before.”

Darryl Pressley had to be up on the roof, fixing a tarp during a hurricane, after just living through a tornado to prevent any more water getting inside where the beam went into their roof.

From their backyard, the Pressleys could see their neighbor's RV flipped on its side and pieces of the neighbor’s carport scattered throughout the Pressley yard and in the woods.

The Pressleys also lost a sycamore tree, which was ripped out by the roots and crushed the bench swing they had beneath it.

“It’s mainly weird that it’s fallen and not up," said Pressley's son, Zayden. "You’re so used to it after like seven years. Thankful it was just one tree that fell, and that it didn’t fall on the house.”
