UNF hosts vow renewal ceremony for nearly 30 alumni couples

It was the first "Blessed at the Nest" event the university has hosted since 2012.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Saying "I do" at the place it all started.

The University of North Florida hosted a vow renewal ceremony on Saturday for nearly 30 couples who met while attending the school.

It was the first "Blessed at the Nest" event the university has hosted since 2012. The ceremony was held at the University Center on Saturday afternoon. Several couples were also accompanied by their children.

UNF President Moez Limayem led the vow renewal celebration, which included a bubble machine and special gifts from the UNF Alumni Association to commemorate the event.

"We are all elated that you found a partner that you love, honor and cherish at this university, UNF," said Limayem.

UNF said the couples ranged from being married for six months to decades, including one celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Philip and Lotonia Mobley were married on June 29, 1974, after finding each other during a student government meeting.

“UNF has been an important part of our lives,” Philip said. “When people see us, they know we’re UNF alum. It’s a big part of us.”

Philp graduated from UNF in 1975, earning a bachelor's degree in math science, and decades later returned to the nest to pursue a degree in educational leadership. Lotonia graduated in 1976, earning a degree in psychology.

The couple shares children and grandchildren and said the key to marriage is "that it takes work."

“It takes effort from both parties, respect and understanding. It’s also important to keep the romantic part of a marriage. Don’t let it get old," Philip said.

Sometimes all you need is the right person to SWOOP you off your feet. Congratulations to all the alumni couples who were #BlessedInTheNest during today's Osprey Vow Renewal!
