JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- A Jacksonville family was able to escape unharmed from a fire that destroyed their home and injured two firefighters early Tuesday morning in Mandarin.
According to the Florida Department of Financial Services, the fire was ruled an accident and the home "nearly" a total loss. Investigators found that charcoal had been improperly disposed of, and that the charcoal reignited inside a plastic container and then lit up a propane tank nearby.
The fire caused extensive damage to the home's roof and garage on Dividing Oaks Trail East.
Family members and pets were able escape the blaze without injury, according to the homeowners. The firefighters suffered minor injuries, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
The fire was sparked about 3 a.m.
At least one vehicle was also damaged in the blaze.
