FHP says a Middleburg 17-year-old girl was the driver and an 18-year-old man from Keystone Heights was the passenger.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Two Clay County teenagers died Friday night after their vehicle hit a tree and became "partially submerged" in a retention pond, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP says a Middleburg 17-year-old girl was the driver and an 18-year-old man from Keystone Heights was the passenger; both of their identities were not released. The crash report says the accident happened at 11:45 p.m., and occurred when the vehicle they were in, "left the roadway" while traveling southbound on Oakleaf Plantation Parkway and hit a tree.

The report further states that after the vehicle crashed into the tree, it overturned, and is when it became partially submerged in a retention pond. FHP says the teens were pronounced dead at the scene by Clay County Fire Rescue.
