A local veteran was inducted into the U.S. Army Parachute Rigger Hall of Fame, Tuesday, after a heroic act of bravery during WWII.
Colonel Thomas Cross led an entire troop to safety in France after breaking his leg in the initial parachute jump.
Cross was able to move about 200 soldiers to their defensive positions while under constant fire with that broken leg, despite receiving orders to seek medical attention.
He was eventually evacuated for medical treatment in Italy, but only after everyone was safe. He rejoined his unit after he recovered.
This bravery is only the tip of the iceberg, he's also the man who designed the U.S. Army Parachute Rigger Badge you may have seen on the red hats worn by army riggers.
His induction was a thank you for his work and for his commitment to our country.
