JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A toddler was killed when a tree fell on a mobile home in Jacksonville last Thursday night, Sept. 26 as Helene impacted Northeast Florida, the National Weather Service reports.

The NWS says the tree fell on the home on Ozo Lane South, on the city's Westside near Jacksonville Heights, and the fallen debris resulted in the toddler's death.

The toddler's death is part of a damage report which says peak wind gusts of 72 mph were recorded at JAX, as well as 71 mph at Mayport Naval Station and 74 at Jacksonville Naval Air Station near Orange Park. The report also notes that fallen trees caused "total destruction" of roofs and homes in the Midwest Side and Arlington Hills.

As of Thursday Oct. 3, Helene's death toll reached 200 and is likely to keep rising. It is the deadliest hurricane to hit the U.S. mainland since Katrina, in 2005.
