Thousands of people with special needs walk down red carpet at Jacksonville Night to Shine

The Tim Tebow Foundation hosts the "prom night" event in countries around the world pairing people with special needs with a buddy.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Friday night, thousands of people with special needs were able strut down the red carpet as prom kings and queens in downtown Jacksonville.

It was all part of the 10th annual night to shine event hosted by the Tim Tebow Foundation.

Over 7,000 people attended the event where people with special needs were paired up with buddies.

Some pairs met each other for the first-time hours before the event.

There was hair, makeup, nails, dancing, photo booths, and dancing for everyone.

“I just learned them myself," a special needs man named Joseph, said about his dance moves.

“Joseph, by far I am not as good a dancer," his buddy John said with a laugh about his own dance moves.

"Tonight was my first night [meeting him], mom was like, 'buckle up buttercup,'" John said.

For John, watching Joseph dance with others and seeing the smile on his face made the night extra special.

“Nothing more exciting than to see these kids be able to enjoy themselves and man I get a kick out of it, and I’m encouraged to just be able to enjoy life a little more," John said.
