Temperatures dropping to near-freezing across Jacksonville on Wednesday morning

The last time Jacksonville hit 33F was in mid-March, but the River City hasn't had a freeze since late January.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Ready or not! It's time to break out the cold weather gear across Jacksonville. Bring in the potted plants. Make sure the pets have a warm bed to snuggle in. Get the fireplaces inspected. Because...

Winter... is... HERE!

DUUUVAL will feel its coldest air since mid-March on Wednesday and Thursday mornings this week.

Jacksonville's Most Accurate First Coast News Weather Team is forecasting morning lows of 33 degrees on Wednesday and 34 degrees on Thursday. The last time Jacksonville's thermometer dropped to 33 degrees was on March 16, 2023. The last time Jacksonville had a freeze (with a morning low of at least 32 degrees) was on January 27, 2023.

And if you're wondering, this is some serious cold, or at least enough to flirt with the city's record morning low of 30 degrees for November 29.

A clear sky and calmer wind will also promote the development of frost, mainly for areas away from the coast. However, there may still be some patchy frost show up in cold-prone or wind-sheltered locations of coastal Duval and across St. Johns County. Take the necessary precautions before your head hits the pillows Tuesday night!

A Freeze Warning is in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday for areas away from the coast in southeast Georgia and northeast Florida, including western Duval County. A Frost Advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday for portions of the First Coast, including coastal Duval County and inland St. Johns County.
