JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —
When it comes to Ms. Heather Callejas, there’s no denying her educational glow!
Callejas has been teaching for over eight years and goes above and beyond conventional teaching methods.
“One time, we got to use shaving cream to spell out words,” said Ian Epps, a student at DePaul School of Northeast Florida in Jacksonville where Callejas teaches.
Callejas provides a multi-sensory learning experience daily, showcasing her dedication and passion for the art of teaching. Not to mention, she cultivates a safe space for students to make mistakes, recognizing the value of these experiences by building resilience and self-confidence.
“Having the chance to come into a private school and teach kids with dyslexia is amazing,"Callejas told First Coast News. "I love these kids and they know.”
However, Callejas doesn’t just shine in her classroom, she shines throughout the entire school.
“The way she connects with the students, it makes her exceptional!” DePaul School of Northeast Florida Principal Reeyan McCullough said.
Callejas's nomination serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting students with dyslexia and the broader commitment to inclusive education.
“My mentors are what got me here," Callejas paused, "this is just so humbling.”
