A federal judge has appointed an attorney to represent suspended Jacksonville City Council member Katrina Brown hours after it was determined in court that she couldn't afford legal counsel.
On Thursday, the court decided Brown was "financially unable to afford counsel but able to contribute to the cost of counsel.”
Shortly after, judge James R. Klindt appointed Darcy D. Galnor, an attorney and former prosecutor with criminal law defense.
Brown and fellow council member Reggie Brown were indicted earlier this month on fraud and money laundering charges after working with the FBI for months on an investigation regarding the charges.
Shortly after they were indicted both council members were suspended by Governor Rick Scott.
*CORRECTION: A previous version of this article indicated that both defendants had entered pleas of not guilty to all charges. Neither council member entered a plea on Thursday. Both Reggie Brown and Katrina Brown maintained their innocence upon leaving the courtroom on Thursday.
