State police make arrest after woman finds Apple Air Tag on her car

On Wednesday, Anthony Magro, 25, of Bridgeport, was charged with Electronic Stalking.

GOSHEN, Connecticut — Connecticut State Police have arrested a man on stalking charges in connection with an Apple Air Tag a woman found on her car last year.

On Wednesday, Anthony Magro, 25, of Bridgeport, was charged with Electronic Stalking. He was released on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 16.

Police said in February 2023, a woman in Goshen received an alert on her phone indicating that an AirTag device was moving with her, but believed that the notification was generated due to a relative having left a set of Apple AirPods earbuds inside of her vehicle.

Over the next month, the car was used infrequently, but on March 24, 2023, she received another notification that the AirTag was moving with her.

That day, the woman and a relative spent two hours searching the car. They found an Air Tag attached to the inside of her vehicle’s driver’s side front wheel rim with adhesive.

She brought it to state police, who said they determined that the device was registered to Anthony Magro, with a last known address in Torrington. Magro was contacted and told police that he now lived in Bridgeport and without transportation. Over the next several months, troopers left messages for Magro to set up a meeting and he failed to do so.

They applied for and was granted an arrest warrant for Magro.

On Wednesday, police made contact with Magro in West Haven. Based upon the active warrant for his arrest, Magro was taken into custody and transported to Troop B in North Canaan.

State police reminded the public if the receive a notification that a tracking device is nearby and believe that you may be in danger, please contact police as soon as it is safe to do so.
