ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — UPDATE: The missing man - George Whitmer, 81, has been found safe.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is asking residents to "check your exterior security cameras" after a man diagnosed with dementia went missing Tuesday night, according to a Facebook post from the agency.
Specifically, police are asking neighbors near Fruit Cove Road to check their cameras after George Whitmer, 81, wandered away on foot from a family member’s home in the area, the post states. He was last seen wearing a navy plaid golf shirt and gray pants.
The sheriff's office says it is actively searching for Whitmer, as a "large law enforcement presence" is expected.
