Multiple agencies search for two missing canoeist in Hastings area

According to FWC, three canoeists were in the water when their canoes flipped. Only one of the canoeists was able to swim to shore.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Multiple agencies are searching for two canoeists who reportedly went missing after the canoe they were riding flipped over on Saturday.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is the lead agency in the search and is being assisted by members of St. Johns County Fire Rescue and the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

A 911 call was made around 3 p.m. Saturday to report the individuals missing.

According to FWC, three canoeists were in the water when their canoes flipped. One of the canoeists was able to swim to shore, but the other two are still missing at this time.

FWC said it discontinued the active search when the sun went down, but added there will still be a presence in the area in case either of the canoeists are found.

An FWC spokesperson says they will ramp the search back up at the break of dawn Sunday.

That spokesperson said the pond takes up 25 acres and isn't connected to other bodies of water.

Crews have been searching in the area near the 900 block of George Miller Road known as Deep Creek West.

This is a developing story.

The St. Johns County Fire Rescue (SJCFR) and several other agencies are currently searching for two missing individuals in the 900 block of George Miller Rd.
