ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Nostalgia is making its way back to St. Augustine.
Five years after losing the iconic carousel, city commissioners recently approved the plan to replace it.
There are a few steps left before the carousel is back in Davenport Park.
Before commissioners approved the lease agreement between the city and the owner of the carousel, the amendments included: reducing the closing hours from 10 p.m. to 8 p.m., opening the carousel to the public for six days with one day for daily maintenance. In addition, the Florida Department of Agricultural Services will conduct annual inspections.
Residents should expect crews working around Davenport Park. Florida Power & Light is expected to install a new power line for the merry-go-round. The owner also has to make sure the ride is ADA accessible.
City officials told First Coast News the ride will be delivered from China. If everything goes to plan, the carousel could be ready by Labor Day, they said.
