JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As people across the country came together on the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11th, 2001 terror attacks, a group from St. Augustine was lending their services to the families of the victims.
Volunteers with Tri-State Canine Response Team in St. Augustine were invited to attend the 9/11 remembrance ceremony in New York City. The volunteers and their therapy dogs provided comfort and support to families of the victims and first responders.
This was the ninth year volunteers with Tri-State were invited to the ceremony. They are the only authorized organization to provide therapy dog support services to the families of the victims during the ceremony.
Daniela Terrosi-Gifford is the volunteer coordinator for Tri-State in Florida. She attended the ceremony with her service dog, Diego. Gifford helps train dogs and their handlers to respond after tragedies, like the mass shootings in Buffalo, NY and Uvalde, TX.
Along with volunteers from St. Augustine, a team from Texas and a volunteer from Italy attended the ceremony.
