WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A massive TikTok and social media star made a surprise trip to a Warner Robins restaurant on Saturday.
Keith Lee, who has 16.7 million followers on TikTok and 2.3 million followers on Instagram, traveled down to the International City for one of his restaurant tastings. Lee has built a career off of trying various restaurants from around the country, especially ones owned by people of color, or by those who are struggling.
Lee, alongside his family, visited Tacos Y Mariscos Ofelia, who he found through social media. He said that a post from the restaurant about their struggles made its way to him, so he flew two hours into Atlanta and then drove another two hours to visit.
While there, he didn't just try various dishes. He paid for the restaurant's next three months of rent and left $900 for anyone else that visited the place to eat for free.
Lee spoke with the store owners and told them how much he loved how family-oriented the business was, which he and his family rated 8/10. He did note that it was interesting that younger kids were running the front of the house.
The owners said that the restaurant had been struggling to hire staff, so their kids stepped up to help run the front of the house. While they had seen their struggles, and have had to even send out employees to Macon to grab various items the restaurant needed, they were very thankful for Lee showing up.
"You made my day and my life," the owner said to Lee in the video.
In many cases, after Lee visits restaurants, they see what's called the "Keith Lee Effect," which has restaurants down on their luck having lines running outside the store. He closed out his video by saying that he hopes Tacos Y Marisco Ofelia finds their target audience.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Keith Lee video without him and his family trying the food. He ordered chunky guacamole and salsa with chips, street corn in a cup, loaded fries, birria pizza and a pair of tacos — one birria and one al pastor.
Lee and his partner's favorite item was easily the loaded fries, which they highlighted how the fries were clearly homemade. They loved the seasoning on them and rated them around a 9. The other item that they adored was the birria pizza. They loved the spice level on it, and how crispy and cheesy it was. They also loved how fresh everything tasted and how they could easily tell that the birria consume was homemade.
Overall, Lee and his partner's rankings averaged around 7.5 to 8 for many of the items, with Lee not loving the street corn and his partner not loving the salsa.
