BRUNSWICK, Ga. — A debris fire ignited at the Pinova manufacturing plant in Brunswick on Sunday, a Glynn County spokesperson confirmed.
Brunswick Fire Department responded to the fire which covered a "25x25" foot area.
The fire was quickly extinguished and crews laid down a layer of "firefighting foam" to combat any possible flareups, according to fire rescue.
Crews will continue to monitor the area, adding robotic teams with thermal drones are on standby if needed.
First responders initially thought the fire was started by a lightning strike that hit small containers of resin, though the official cause of the fire is unclear.
In June, Pinova Inc. announced it was permanently shutting down the plant after it was ravaged by a massive fire on April 15, 2023.
City officials hoped to have the plant fully decommissioned by December 2024.
