ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A firefighter was hospitalized Friday after helping attack a two-alarm fire at a home in St. Augustine, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue.
The fire happened at 272 Saint Johns Golf Dr.
"Units arrived on scene to find a two story house with heavy fire showing for [from] the garage area," SJCFR said in a post on Facebook. "The fire had already extended to the second floor. Our crews made a rapid search of the building and confirmed no occupant were [was] inside."
SJCFR says "falling debris" is what caused the firefighter's injury; they have been released from the hospital after being admitted with minor injuries.
Furthermore, the fire department says the fire started by a charging golf cart. The cart was left plugged in with lithium battery causing the fire to start.
Due to the "heavy fire involvement," crews had to transition to an exterior attack on the fire, according to officials. Once most of the fire was put out, fire rescue says crews finished extinguishing it after making another entry inside the home.
