Six-year-old child hit by car, killed in St. Augustine

The incident happened Monday at 6:16 p.m. in the area of West Volusia Street and West King Street. The driver left the scene.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A six-year-old child was hit by a car and killed in St. Augustine Monday evening.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office reported that the incident happened at 6:16 p.m. in the area of North Volusia Street and West King Street. The driver left the scene.

The child was rushed to the UF Health St. Johns but was pronounced dead.

The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Homicide Investigation.

The suspect vehicle has not been located and there is no description available.

In a Tuesday afternoon press release, the Sheriff's Office said citizens found the child in the roadway in front of a residence, but there were no witnesses or suspects related to incident.

The initial investigation has resulted in several investigative leads to follow up on and all parties involved have been accounted for, the release said. The investigation is ongoing.
