JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Patrol Officer is one of 13 people charged with various federal offenses related to the sale of drugs.

JSO officer Michael Rounsville, 46, was charged with the unauthorized use of the National Crime Information Center Database, according to a media release from the Department of Justice.

Others have been charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering, failure to file IRS forms and narcotics trafficking, among other offenses, according to JSO.

Rounsville allegedly exceeded his allotment for checking the NCIC database by checking an undercover agent's criminal history, according to court documents.

The crackdown was titled Operation Thunderstruck which is part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Program.

JSO released the following statement on Thursday evening:

"We have been a part of this investigation since its inception. Obviously, when it was discovered that one of our officers may be involved I was disappointed," said Undersheriff Dwain Senterfitt. "We diligently pursue all allegations of wrong doing by any member of this agency, and when founded these individuals are held completely accountable. We must hold ourselves to the highest of standards, and will," he said.

Rounsville no longer has police powers and is on voluntary leave. His termination is pending, according to JSO.
