Serenata Beach Club says they are reopening after abrupt closure

The club employees said they were not paid for weeks leading up to the closure in January. A GoFundMe for them raised $15,495 -- but now the club is reopening.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A St. Johns County beach club is reopening following an abrupt closure that left members confused -- and employees unpaid.

The Serenata Beach Club, a private club on South Ponte Vedra Beach, closed in January.

A sign on the club's front door said that it would be closed "until further notice."

Members heard that the employees had not been paid for weeks. They started a GoFundMe to support the staff, many of whom are in their 20's. It has raised $15,495.

Now, the club has posted on Facebook that it is reopening.

The post says that the club will open on February 20.
