JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — With Helene expected to make landfall on the Gulf Coast of Florida as a major hurricane, First Coast News is monitoring potential school closures for counties along the First Coast.
Northeast Florida
Duval County
Duval County schools will be closed Thursday and Friday, Mayor Donna Deegan announced Tuesday. Some schools will be used as shelters, the mayor added.
Because school has been canceled Friday, so will high school football.
Clay County
School closures have not yet been announced.
Columbia County
Columbia County schools will be closed Thursday and Friday, the district announced Tuesday. Classes will resume on Monday.
Nassau County
School closures have not yet been announced.
St. Johns County
School closures have not yet been announced.
Baker County
School closures have not yet been announced.
Putnam County
School closures have not yet been announced.
