JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 3-year-old boy drowned in a pool during a Fourth of July gathering in a neighborhood off San Pablo Road Thursday afternoon, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.
The incident occurred on Blackbeard Drive in a neighborhood off San Pablo Road between Beach Boulevard and Atlantic Boulevard.
Police and fire rescue personnel responded to a drowning call at the home around 3 p.m. JSO said a family gathering was taking place at the house when family members started looking for the child, eventually finding the boy in the pool unconscious.
The child was removed from the pool and family members began trying to save the child's life until members from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department arrived.
The child was transported to a nearby hospital where he pronounced dead.
Detectives do not suspect foul play and are classifying this as a "tragic accident."
