JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A popular Pennsylvania-based craft brewer hopes to cast a spell on Jacksonville with its beer and classic pub fare when it debuts in Northeast Florida next month.
Voodoo Brewing Co. plans to open July 13 at 1974 San Marco Blvd., the craft brewer announced Monday afternoon on its Facebook homepage.
The brewpub will span two stories totaling 8,646 square feet in a 99-year-old building near the original Taverna, the adjacent Taverna Oceana, and the historic San Marco Theatre, which is being restored, repaired and renovated to become Electric Dough Pizza Co.
The signature Foodoo burger at Voodoo is a cheddar-cheese smash burger with onions, pickles, lettuce, tomato and a house-made Cajun ranch.
Voodoo is known for its brews Good Vibes (West Coast IPA), Oh Mama (lager), Voodoo Love Child (fruited Belgian tripel), Where Our Secrets Go (Imperial Stout), Empty Calories (American light lager), Lacto-Kooler (berliner weisse) and other seasonal offerings.
The restaurant’s pub grub, which varies slightly from one location to another, includes pizzas, burgers, salads, wraps, and sandwiches as well as mac and cheese, mussels, wings and more.
Ponte Vedra Beach business partners Ryan Locke and Chris Rudin — doing business as Locke Rudin Enterprises LLC — are opening the franchised location of the brewpub, Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation records show.
Voodoo lists five corporate brewpubs as well as about 20 franchise locations not including Jacksonville on its website.
Founded in 2005 in Meadville, Penn., Voodoo opened its first taproom in 2012. In addition to the San Marco location, two others — Fort Myers and St. Petersburg — are listed in Florida, according to the company's website and state records.

The Voodoo opening comes in the wake of a series of separate and unrelated closures of Jacksonville-area craft breweries and taprooms. Most notable among those is A1A Ale Works, which closed May 26 after 29 years of serving craft beer and upscale pub grub at the foot of the Bridge of Lions in historic downtown St. Augustine.
