Retired Flagler deputy dead in apparent suicide

Joseph P. Delarosby, 50, was found dead beneath a tree at a park in Palm Coast Tuesday morning, deputies said. He had just recently retired.

PALM COAST, Fla. -- A retired Flagler County Sheriff's deputy took his life Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Joseph P. Delarosby, 50, of Palm Coast, was found dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound beneath a tree at Hero's Park in Palm Coast, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office. His vehicle was parked nearby.

Delarosby, a 19-year veteran with the agency, had recently retired. Throughout his career, he was recognized with numerous awards and accolades, including 27 commendations, 12 certificates of appreciation and 13 personal letter of appreciation.

"On behalf of the agency I would like to express my sincere condolences to Joe's family," said Sheriff James Manfre. "He was a well-respected deputy and our thoughts and prayers go out to those who served with him."
