REPORT: Glynn County Police DUI expert charged with DUI

The report said Glynn County police officer Kevin Yarborough, 38, was arrested by a state trooper during a traffic stop on Cate Road at 4:42 p.m.

A Glynn County police officer recognized as an expert at detecting drivers impaired by drugs or alcohol was arrested Monday and charged with driving under the influence, according to a report from The Brunswick News.

The report said Glynn County police officer Kevin Yarborough, 38, was arrested by a state trooper during a traffic stop on Cate Road at 4:42 p.m.

Georgia State Patrol told The Brunswick News that Yarborough had swerved twice out of the lane of traffic.

During the stop, Yarborough tested positive for alcohol during a breathalyzer test.

Yarborough was booked into the Glynn County Detention Center just after 5 p.m. and has been charged with DUI and failure to maintain a lane, the report said.

He was soon released on a $1,690 bond, the report said.

Back in 2016, Yarborough was recognized as the State of Georgia Drug Recognition Expert of the year by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety and MADD Georgia. The report also said he is one of three members of the county police department's Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic team and is recognized as an expert on detecting drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Yarborough has been placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation ensues into his arrest.
