VILANO BEACH, Fla. — The family of a canoeist missing off the coast of Vilano Beach, gathered Christmas Day on the beach where he was last seen for a prayer vigil as they continue to hold on to hope that he will be found.
The Coast Guard suspended its search for 46-year-old Eiffel Gilyana at sunset Sunday, but Task Force Hydro1 was be back out Monday morning.
Gilyana was heavily involved in his community and was a member of the Jewish Community Alliance. Dozens of members of the organization came together to pray for his safe return home, holding hands and lifting their voices to the sky
“Certainly a difficult time of the year and we hope to be able to find Effiel soon," Adam Chaskin, CEO of the Jewish Community Alliance, said.
It’s been over 48 hours since he disappeared while canoeing near the St. Augustine Inlet. Many who gathered on the beach on Monday have been up for days, supporting the family and assisting in the search.
“We’ve had staff and many volunteers members of the JCA that have been offering their support with helping in the search, comforting the family bringing food whatever people feel they can do. Effiel is a much loved member of our community," Chaskin said.
No effort is too much for a man that many have come to love.
”Effiel wasn’t just the fitness and wellness director at the JCA he wasn’t just a personal trainer he became part of people’s families and people became part of his family. He just has such a warm heart and so many people connected so easily and so well with him over the years," Chaskin said. “Please everyone keep him in your prayers and your thoughts and his family also."
