Ponte Vedra man posing as tutor attempts to entice child into sexual activities, DOJ says

The suspect responded to a Facebook post in a public group from an individual searching for a tutor for an 11-year-old child.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — A 39-year-old Ponte Vedra man was arrested after Florida officials said he posed as a tutor to attempt to entice a child into sexual activity.

According to a Department of Justice release, Kevin Wilson, 39, responded to a Facebook post in a public group from an individual searching for a tutor for an 11-year-old child. Officials said Wilson posed as a woman and told the poster to contact her "husband" by text message.

The individual and Wilson engaged in conversation where Wilson sent a photo of himself and asked for one of the child in return, the release reads. The conversation ended shortly thereafter and the poster contacted the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office to report the interaction.

Four days later, an undercover detective posing as the guardian of a "12-year-old girl" reached out to Wilson asking for his tutoring services. Within the conversation, the report says Wilson began discussing sexual topics involving the "child" and meeting up with the "child" to perform sexual acts.

Wilson and the undercover detective set up a time to meet on July 24 for Wilson to engage in sexual acts with the "child," the report states. Wilson was arrested upon arrival.

Wilson faces a minimum of 10 years in federal prison if convicted.
