A man is dead Thursday following a shooting in the Mixon Town area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Police said around 3:40 p.m. they responded to the 2100 block of Clemente Drive with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department after receiving reports of a shooting.
At the scene, officers found a man suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment by the fire department where he died from his injuries, police said.
Initial investigations appear to show that the man was at the edge of the road when a suspect approached him and fired several times, striking the victim, according to the sheriff's office.
Police were able to detain several witnesses who are cooperative with the investigation. At this time, no suspect information has been released.
