JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville police are investigating a suspected explosion in the Lake Forest Hills neighborhood that left a man injured Saturday night.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 1800 block of Rugby Road in reference to a person in need of medical assistance.

When officers arrived, they found a man in front of a home who appeared to have injuries to his neck and chest stemming from a "pellet-style projectile," according to police. The man also had several other injuries all over his body from an unknown incident that occurred before police arrived.

Officers said a trail of blood led them to what appeared to be a "blast scene" with pieces of debris surrounding a portion of the yard.

People in the area described hearing an explosion, adding the sound echoed a transformer blowing up, according to police.

Crews with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department took the victim to the hospital where he is in stable condition.

JSO's Hazardous Device Unit also responded to the scene, though it's unclear what they found and if there was any evidence of a bomb.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact JSO's non-emergency number at (904)-630-0500 or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
