Police are working to determine if foul play is involved after human remains were found near a Brentwood creek bed by a resident who was walking his dog in the area Sunday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Around 8:30 a.m., JSO responded to the 4100 block of Evergreen Avenue after receiving reports that human remains had been found.
At the scene, police determined that a man was walking his dog when he discovered remains near a creek bed located along the side of the road, police said.
The remains will be evaluated by the Medical Examiners office to determine the cause of death. At this time, police are not sure if foul play was involved.
Police are not yet sure how long the remains were near the creek bed or the identity of the person. JSO's Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Unit and Dive Team is investigating.
