NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. — Duval County School Police investigated a threat made via social media Saturday toward Duncan U. Fletcher High School in Neptune Beach, according to a spokesperson for Duval County Public Schools.
The spokesperson confirmed to First Coast News that the threat stemmed from a photo that appeared to be posted to Snapchat. The photo partially showed a student's face and was captioned "No one go to school. I got a gun, I'm [expletive] done. If you do, be out and gone before 10:20."
The school's Principal Ledford sent a statement to parents saying the threat was found to not be credible and that the situation is being handled as a disciplinary matter. School will also continue as normal tomorrow, according to the principal.
The full statement reads:
"Hello Fletcher families,
You know I want to keep you informed anytime something occurs within our school community that might concern you as a parent. Yesterday, we received information regarding a social media post indicating a threat to our school. Duval County School Police was notified, and a threat assessment was conducted. Police have indicated we have no credible threat at this time, and the situation is being handled as a disciplinary matter. Please remind your students that making a threat on social media is never considered a joke.
I greatly appreciate our school community following our protocol around “see something, say something.” This remains one of the best ways we can keep our campus safe. Please feel free to reach out to me at ledfordj@duvalschools.org<mailto:ledfordj@duvalschools.org> or 247-5905 Ext. 1010<tel:247-5905;1010> if you have questions or feedback.
