JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Update: 1:45 p.m., Jan. 8
The Florida Highway Patrol identified the victim killed in the crash as Robert Wright.
A man was hit and killed while walking in the street on Arlington Road Thursday at approximately 6:45 p.m., according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
He was struck by a Toyota Tundra pickup that was traveling Northbound on Arlington Road, while he was walking in the outside lane.
A witness told police that a vehicle in front of the Toyota almost hit the man and swerved out of the way.
"The witness advised that the driver of the Toyota Tundra likely had less time to react to the pedestrian in the road" because he could not see the victim until the other car had moved.
The driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating. He showed no signs of impairment.
