ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- We're not talking about so-so participation. Not even pretty good participation. We're talking an entire high school going pink and raising money for You Are Beautiful, our new campaign to get wigs to chemo patients who can't afford them.
Pedro Menendez High School, under the leadership of teachers Beth Morucci and Gary Hoog, worked on a variety of fundraisers to help.
The school celebrated the strong spirit of cancer patients with an all-out pink pep rally in the gym.
One example? A pink trash can would land in a classroom and could not be removed until $25 in donations went into the can. Then that class would get to dump the can into another classroom. The students presented cash and checks for more than $1,200.
They're still raising money, in fact. The total now is over $1,700, enough to sponsor 11 new, high-quality wigs for chemo patients fighting any type of cancer.
If you'd like to donate, go to the non-profit In The Pink: www.jaxinthepink.com
Our goal with You Are Beautiful is 700 new wigs.
