FHP: 1 dead, 1 in critical condition after motorcycles collide with box truck on Philips Highway

The Florida Highway Patrol crash report states the drivers of the motorcycles are from Orange Park, as the crash happened Thursday night.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One man died in a crash on Philips Highway near Lenoir Avenue in Jacksonville Thursday night, while another man is in critical condition Friday, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP says at 10:22 p.m., a box truck driven by a 64-year-old man was traveling southbound on the highway to turn left onto Lenoir Avenue. At the same time, two motorcyclists were traveling northbound on the highway just south of Lenoir Avenue in the right lane, the FHP crash report states.

Troopers say the man driving the box truck "failed to observe" the two motorcyclists approaching the intersection and thus, turned left.

As a result, the two motorcyclists struck the right side of the box truck.

The man who died was one of the motorcyclists, as he was a 29-year-old from Orange Park, the report states; he was pronounced dead on the scene.

The man in critical condition is the other motorcyclist. He's a 23-year-old also from Orange Park, according to FHP.

The driver of the box truck did not suffer any injuries in the crash, the report notes.
