NOCATEE, Fla. — A Nocatee man has a leading role in an upcoming MMA movie set in biblical times.
"The Carpenter" portrays a champion MMA-style prize-fighter "whose life is impacted when he is befriended by a benevolent Carpenter from Nazareth" according to a press release.
It tells the story of Oren, played by Kameron Krebs, an adopted orphan whose path as a paid fighter takes him to Nazareth in Galilee. He is mentored by the carpenter Yeshua. Kaulin Krebs, of Nocatee, plays Levi, who is Oren’s brother and trainer.
“The Carpenter” was produced by the Krebs family and shot in Cape Town, South Africa, using close to 200 extras for some scenes and employing multiple combat sport veterans with professional experience. The Krebs own and operate Jacksonville-based Concrete Reinforcements Inc., which manufacture welded wire products for structural concrete.
The film is directed by Garrett Batty.
“I fell in love with the premise right away, asking the question so many of us have asked: ‘What was Jesus’ life like in the years leading up to His ministry?’” Batty said in a press release. “We spent a lot of time imagining Him during those early adult years before His recorded ministry officially began. It became clear that we should depict Jesus as a caring, good-humored, likeable and wise ‘older brother.’ Add in the action, soundtrack and the Krebs family’s inspired vision, and you have a film unlike anything I’ve ever had the joy of working on before.”
The soundtrack features artists such as Godsmack, Drowning Pool and Mötley Crüe.
The film premiers in select theaters Nov. 1.
