New leadership selected in St. Johns County

County commissioners voted on a new permanent fire chief and a contract for a new county administrator.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla — As of Tuesday, there is a new permanent fire chief and a county administrator in St. Johns County.

Two county positions that had been vacated – either by resignation or by ousting – in the last year were officially and permanently filled.

County commissioners voted, making Sean McGee the new county fire chief. He has been serving as acting fire chief since October when Scott Bullard resigned. However, Bullard said he was forced out. McGee has been with the fire department for 25 years.

Secondly, the commission voted to approve a County Administrator contract for Joy Andrews.

She had been serving in the role since Hunter Conrad left the position last year. The county administrator holds the highest unelected position in the county.  The approved salary of $285,000 for Andrews raised some eyebrows, but not everyone’s.

County commissioner Henry Dean said, "Joy has 18 years of experience with this county which she has performed not just admirably, but exceptionally."
